The Utah Transit Authority’s 19.5-mile UTA TRAX light rail system currently features three rail lines originating in the heart of Salt Lake City at Salt Lake Central Station. The UTA Frontrunner train heads north out of Salt Lake City on the purple route. The red University TRAX Line travels east, connecting passengers to the University of Utah and University Medical Center, and the blue, Salt Lake/Sandy Line heads south, connecting you to Sandy Utah and The Hansen House! UTA Utah has extension plans to add four more lines to this system, including an airport connector. Two extensions are currently under construction, both heading west from South Salt Lake and Sandy Utah respectively. The 10.5-mile Mid-Jordan line and the 5.1-mile West Valley line will both branch off the UTA TRAX Sandy line, and plans call for all four Salt Lake City Transit lines to be finished by 2014. Best of all, UTA Utah provides bus routes from Sandy to the ski resorts in Big Cottonwood Canyon and Little Cottonwood Canyon. Snowbird Ski Resort and Alta Ski Resort in Little Cottonwood and Solitude and Brighton Ski Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon are accessible via UTA Utah buses from the Midvale Fort Union Trax Station in Sandy Utah.
