The 1887 Hansen House
Enjoy the elegance of yesteryear with the conveniences of today at The 1887 Hansen House. This Victorian mansion, listed on the National Historic Register, is surrounded by rock gardens, fountains, and 100-year-old trees. It’s truly a delightful step back in time! A charming guest house has additional themed rooms, including a spacious cottage suite inspired by the English fox hunting tradition. Each morning, a delicious full breakfast is served in the formal dining room adorned with Victorian china and crystal goblets. All guest rooms have a private bathroom, fireplace, and a jetted tub.
Our Salt Lake City Bed and Breakfast is just 20 minutes by TRAX to downtown shopping, dining, entertainment and attractions. Our convenient location also provides easy access to the freeway, ski areas, historical sites, the Mountain America Exposition Center, the Rio Tinto Soccer Stadium, and University of Utah.
Innkeeper Fran Hansen wonderfully retells the rich Mormon Pioneer and American Indian history of those who survived (and some who didn’t) the Black Hawk War of 1865. The survivors’ lives, hopes, and dreams inspired those that followed them; leaving behind a legacy of courage and love. One such survivor was William D. Kuhre, an early mayor of Sandy UT who built the historic mansion now known as The 1887 Hansen House Bed and Breakfast. The Hansen’s have carefully restored this beautiful historic home to its original Victorian elegance; complete with crystal chandeliers, hard woods, stained glass, and intricate woodwork. They have decorated the house with period furnishings, china and stemware, making it a truly unique and memorable experience for those who visit – a step back in time to a quieter, gentler era.
The added guest house at The 1887 Hansen House was rescued and moved from downtown Salt Lake City to its present location in historic Sandy Utah. The Guest House was added to the grounds as an additional Utah Bed and Breakfast site for families, retreats and groups. It is an original 1930’s cottage style home, hand built by Russian immigrants. It has been recently redone in rustic American Country and English Hunting Style décor. The cathedral ceilings, loft, and mahogany woods, with fireplaces in every room, make it a truly comfortable and cozy experience.
